Digital printing is defined as any dye-based method of reproducing colorant on fabric. In essence, this means that it is a way to reproduce digital images on paper or other fabrics with the help of heat. Most importantly, digital printing refers to printing small digital designs onto special fabric or garments and then printing larger digital designs onto huge rolls of fabric. However, the technology has moved beyond these simple applications and now uses sophisticated machinery to produce fine fabrics and photographic images on items such as dresses, suits, and even photographic paintings.
How does digital printing fabric work? Digital printing uses a computer application to digitally print patterns onto fabrics using heat-sensitive dyes. This process is different from traditional screen printing as the image is not printed directly onto the fabric, but is transformed into a vapor using a computer controlled machine. The converted image is then applied to the surface of the fabric using special tools, in order to create a print. Digital printing fabric techniques can be used for a variety of purposes, depending on the application. Below are some common examples:
Digital printing methods can be used to print detailed graphics onto fabrics, such as photos or artwork. One example is inkjet transfer, which transfers an inked pattern onto a garment using liquid pigment inks. Another is digital embroidery printing, which uses thread with colored dyes that are applied onto the fabric with a particular thread roller. This technique involves applying the dye to the fabric using a dye applicator pen. The dyes are dried by heat-treating the fabric before being run through a vacuum deposition system. After this, the printed designs are placed on the surface of the garment using a clothes iron.
Digital printing can also be used to create photographic images on clothing using either a traditional screen printing fabric method or an inkjet transfer method. In the traditional screen printing process, inkjet transfer is used to transfer an image onto the garment. In the digital screen printing process, there are two methods to choose from: thermal or direct thermal transfer. Both produce high quality prints.
High quality digital flatbed printing has many advantages over traditional screen printing. The first advantage is that it can be completed quickly and more precisely than conventional processes. Because of the high speed of digital printing, it can be finished in a shorter period of time than conventional methods. It also provides the option to use different colors and inks for a one-of-a-kind look. Another advantage of using a digital flatbed printer is that the cost is generally much less than a traditionally printed garment. In fact, printing garments using standard screen printing can take up to six times as long to complete as printing using a hybrid digital flatbed printer.
With hybrid printers, the dye is applied to the fabric on the roller drum before printing takes place. The ink then transfers directly onto the garment once it is printed. The dye that is used is usually a thick cotton like material that easily adheres to the fiber without sticking to the skin of the garment.
